The process is initiated through the installation of state-of-the-art cashier hardware and software on grocery stores on a contractual basis. Big data is generated through daily sales via the cashier, which is then translated into high quality marketing data reports that are sold to vendours and suppliers. Already, the cashier software and hardware have been installed in Yaran Daryan shops, allowing the company access to a vast amount of raw data. Given the importance of the registration of SKU information on the company’s servers, an intensive 6 month project has been initiated to register all information associated with all SKUs available in the shops. Over 110,000 barcodes have been identified and over 45,000 SKUs in circulation that carry the “IRAN CODE” standard have been registered and standardised on to the system. This endeavour has resulted in a complete coverage of all products in circulation in all of Tehran’s metropolitan districts. In addition to this, the cashier software’s other special features allows for the implementation of special discount rates such as cash and volume discounts, profit analysis based on product groups, brands, customer clubs and etc. The cashier software is adaptable to the shopkeeper’s individual practices and processes. Currently, the database contains data in excess of 50 million total SKUs in circulation per year and 12 million customer sales receipts, which on its own merits can be considered unique in the country.
